Chapter 10 - Unmasking the Viper

The grand ballroom of the Metropolitan Club was packed with over two hundred elite figures of the city’s underground and business aristocracy.
Armed guards lined every marble pillar.
The heads of the four rival syndicates sat at the long mahogany tribunal table, whispering in hushed, tense tones as rumors of the midnight battle at the Moretti estate spread through the room.
The heavy double doors swung open with a resounding boom.
Luca Moretti walked in first, wearing a flawless, bespoke midnight-blue three-piece suit.
Beside him walked Salvatore Moretti, his very presence causing half the tribunal members to leap to their feet in sheer, disbelieving shock.
“Salvatore? He’s alive?!”
“My God... it’s the old underboss!”
And walking securely between Luca and Salvatore was me.
I wore an elegant, flowing emerald-green silk dress that Luca’s personal stylist had delivered that morning—tailored specifically to conceal the protective medical binding around my ribs while draping gracefully over my shoulders.
Behind us, bound in heavy chains and guarded by four armed enforcers, were Arthur Bellini and Vanessa.
Vanessa’s hair was matted, her face pale and streaked with dried tears, her once-glamorous red dress rumpled and stained.
Luca stepped up to the podium at the center of the hall.
“Commissioners,” Luca’s voice boomed through the acoustics of the ballroom. “Five years ago, Arthur Bellini claimed the Brooklyn docks exploded due to an accidental fuel line rupture, killing my uncle Salvatore.”
Luca turned and pointed a single, condemning finger at Arthur.
“Today, we present the encrypted offshore wire transfers, the signed assassination contracts, and the audio confessions extracted from Bellini’s mercenary commander at dawn.”
Daniel stepped forward, placing a thick stack of forensic financial documents and an audio recorder before the tribunal judges.
“Furthermore,” Luca continued, his voice ringing with absolute clarity, “Vanessa Bellini abused her position as my betrothed to systematically loot the Moretti historical vaults, selling family assets to fund a forty-million-dollar debt her father owed to foreign cartels.”
Vanessa lunged against her chains, screaming at the tribunal. “He’s lying! He’s framing us because he fell in love with a filthy maid! Look at her! She’s wearing emeralds while I am in chains!”
The chief tribunal judge, an eighty-year-old mafia patriarch named Don Carmine, slammed his heavy gavel onto the marble desk.
“Silence the girl!”
Don Carmine reviewed the bank documents for five agonizing minutes. When he looked up, his ancient eyes were devoid of mercy.
“The evidence is absolute,” Don Carmine declared. “Arthur Bellini is guilty of high treason and fratricide against the Commission. Vanessa Bellini is guilty of conspiracy and grand larceny.”
Don Carmine raised his hand.
“By unanimous decree of the five families, the Bellini empire is dissolved immediately. All shipping assets, properties, and accounts are transferred to the sole ownership of Luca Moretti.”
Arthur Bellini slumped in his chains, his spirit completely broken.
Vanessa let out a blood-curdling shriek as the guards dragged them both through the side exits, taking them away to face the final, irreversible judgment of syndicate law.
The entire ballroom erupted into a standing ovation as Don Carmine stepped down from the dais and bowed his head respectfully to Salvatore and Luca.

Luca turned away from the cheering crowds, looked directly down into my eyes, and offered his arm.
“Let’s go home, Hannah.”
