Chapter 9 - THE SECOND KEY

The old port vault had three mechanical locks.
My father’s key had passed to me without my knowledge.
It was hidden inside his signet ring.
Elena had Thomas Hayes’s key.
The third belonged to Vivien’s father.
Meaning our fathers had shared access.
We went to the abandoned terminal at dawn.
Rocco.
Elena.
Me.
Three locks.
Two keys.
Could not open.
But engraved above the vault:
DUCA – HAYES – FAIRCHILD.
Vivien Fairchild.
Her family had been tied to ours far longer than she admitted.
Elena touched her father’s name.
“My father didn't abandon us.”
“I don’t think so.”
“Then what happened?”
