Chapter 15 - The Dawn After The Storm (The End)

The private chapel in the hills of Oak Park was filled with the scent of white gardenias and sweet citrus blossoms.
It was an intimate ceremony.
There were no armed bodyguards.
No syndicate bosses with cold eyes.
Only fifty true friends, former craftsmen who had known my uncle, and honest people who loved us.
Ray Collins stood beside Luca at the altar, wearing a sharp, custom-tailored navy suit, serving proudly as his best man.
The organ began to play a soft, triumphant melody.
I walked down the sunlit stone aisle, wearing a vintage silk gown that had once belonged to my grandmother, updated with delicate lace sleeves.
In my hands was a simple bouquet of white roses and blue hydrangeas.
Luca stood at the altar, looking at me as if I were the only living soul in the universe.
When I reached his side, he took both of my hands into his.
Father Thomas, an elderly priest who had baptized Luca thirty-four years ago, smiled warmly at the two of us.
“Do you, Luca, take Emma to be your lawfully wedded wife, to have and to hold, in sickness and in health, for as long as you both shall live?”
Luca looked deep into my eyes, his voice steady, powerful, and brimming with emotion.
“With all my life, with all my honor, and with all my soul... I do.”
“And do you, Emma, take Luca to be your lawfully wedded husband?”
“I do,” I said clearly, my heart bursting with peace.
“By the power vested in me, I now pronounce you husband and wife.”
Father Thomas smiled.
“You may kiss your bride.”
Luca drew me close, wrapping his arms around my waist, and kissed me deeply while the bells of the chapel rang out into the clear blue sky.
The reception that evening took place in the courtyard of our newly renovated home—not a fortress of dark stone and paranoia, but a bright, sun-drenched estate surrounded by blooming rose gardens and apple orchards.
Ray Collins danced with my elderly aunt Martha near the string quartet.
Daniel laughed with the head jeweler from New York over glasses of sparkling cider.
As the sun began to set behind the rolling hills, painting the sky in breathtaking shades of violet, peach, and gold, Luca took my hand and led me toward the stone terrace overlooking the lake.
He wrapped his coat around my shoulders against the evening breeze, pulling me against his chest.
I leaned my head back against his shoulder, looking down at the magnificent blue diamond glittering on my left hand.
“Are you happy, Emma?” he whispered into my hair.
I turned in his embrace, wrapping my arms around his neck, feeling the steady, rhythmic beat of his heart against mine.
“I have never been happier in my entire life,” I replied softly.
Luca looked down at me, his smile radiant and full of light.
“Thirty years ago, my mother wrote that a man's true strength is measured by how many lives he protects.”
He touched my cheek gently with his thumb.
“You protected my soul, Emma. You gave me back my family’s honor.”
May you like
“And you gave me a home, Luca,” I whispered.
We stood together on the quiet terrace, watching the stars begin to emerge one by one in the deep indigo sky, knowing that the shadows had vanished forever, leaving behind only love, truth, and a bright, beautiful dawn.
