Chapter 8 - The Russo Retribution and Teresa’s Hidden Ledger

By 10:00 PM, the black Dodge Charger was racing back into the city limits under the cover of the torrential rainstorm.
Emma sat in the passenger seat with Luca’s laptop on her knees, rapidly cross-referencing the handwritten entries from Elena Vance’s ledger with the encrypted files from the Moretti financial database.
“It’s worse than you thought,” Emma said, her fingers flying across the keyboard. “Silvio Russo hasn't just been skimming from the Five Families. He’s been funneling syndicate funds directly into offshore accounts tied to federal prosecutors. He was setting up the entire council to be arrested so he could take over the East Coast as a protected state witness.”
Luca’s grip on the steering wheel tightened until his knuckles cracked. “He was planning to sell out every family in the country.”
“And he used your grandfather’s signature to forge the authorization documents,” Emma added, pulling up a scanned document from 2007. “My mother caught him doing it. That’s why she fled. Silvio murdered the union leaders who backed her and framed the Moretti family for the massacre.”
“The bloodline clears tonight,” Luca said coldly.
He picked up his satellite phone, dialing an encrypted frequency.
“Teresa,” Luca said when the line connected.
“Luca, darling,” Teresa’s calm, aristocratic voice came through the speaker, devoid of any panic despite the fact that her mansion had been attacked four hours earlier. “I assume you have the book?”
“We have everything, Grandmother. Where are you?”
“I am currently having tea in the private penthouse suite of the Grand Continental Hotel,” Teresa replied smoothly. “The Five Families are gathering in the grand boardroom on the fiftieth floor. Silvio has brought twenty armed men and is currently giving a very dramatic speech about your supposed betrayal.”
“Is Camille there?”
“Sitting right beside him, looking like a disappointed peacock,” Teresa chuckled. “Bring my future granddaughter-in-law, Luca. She has a show to finish.”
“We’ll be there in twenty minutes,” Luca said.
They pulled into the underground parking garage of the Grand Continental Hotel at 11:30 PM.
Waiting by the private VIP elevator were ten elite Moretti guards, fully armed in tailored suits, led by Teresa’s personal enforcer, a towering veteran named Gianni.
Gianni stepped forward, bowing his head respectfully to Luca and Emma. “Don Luca. Miss Carter. The building is secured by Moretti loyalists on floors forty through forty-nine. The council room is sealed under strict syndicate truce rules.”
Luca stripped off his bloodstained tactical gear. Gianni handed him a fresh, bespoke three-piece charcoal suit and a silk tie.
Emma looked down at her torn cargo pants and oversized sweater.
Gianni smiled warmly, gesturing to an assistant who held a garment bag. “Madam Teresa anticipated your arrival, Miss Carter.”
Ten minutes later, Emma emerged from the private dressing room.
She wore a breathtaking, emerald-green silk column gown with a dramatic capelet that swept over her shoulders, hugging her voluptuous curves with royal perfection. Her hair was styled into an immaculate, elegant wave, and around her neck hung the silver swallow pendant, polished and gleaming under the fluorescent lights.
Luca stepped out in his tailored suit, looking every inch the terrifying, regal Don of the Eastern Seaboard.
He offered his arm to Emma.
“Ready to end this, my Queen?” Luca asked, his dark eyes filled with absolute devotion and lethal intent.

Emma linked her arm through his, raising her chin with unshakeable dignity.
“Let’s go ruin another dinner, Moretti.”
