Chapter 20 - The Cleared Horizon

Dawn broke over Blackwood Ridge, casting brilliant rays of golden sunlight through the pine trees.

Detective Aris sat slumped against the broken doorframe, exhausted but completely unharmed.

The shadow entities had vanished without a single trace, as if they had never existed at all.

Dr. Elias Vance packed away his chalk and ruined vials, offering Rachel a weary, triumphant smile.

Rachel carried Madison out onto the porch, taking a deep breath of the crisp, morning mountain air.

"Mommy," Madison whispered, burying her face into Rachel’s neck.

"I don't feel cold anymore."

Rachel kissed the top of her daughter's head, tears of profound relief streaming down her face.

"Daddy took the cold away, sweetie," Rachel said softly. "He took it all away."

Years passed, and the supernatural horrors never returned to Blackwood Ridge.

The old hunting cabin slowly rotted away, becoming a forgotten relic of an invisible war.

Madison grew up into a bright, joyful, and entirely normal young woman, no longer seeing ghosts or drawing in violet crayon.

But whenever a heavy summer thunderstorm rolled through their town, Rachel would stand by the window, watching the rain.

She didn't watch it with fear, but with an immense, anchoring gratitude.
