Chapter 17 - Return to Blackwood

The escape from the apartment was a descent into absolute madness.
As Aris slammed the gas pedal and tore out of the driveway, shadowy figures leaped onto the hood of the moving vehicle.
They clawed at the metal, leaving deep, freezing grooves in the steel.
Elias sat in the passenger seat, chanting ancient, guttural incantations while throwing handfuls of red salt out the window to clear their path.
They sped through the treacherous mountain roads, the storm outside raging with unnatural ferocity.
The higher they climbed, the thicker the fog became, but the violet light radiating from Madison’s eyes acted as a bizarre, terrifying headlights cutting through the dark.
Finally, the SUV skidded to a halt in the muddy clearing of the old hunting cabin.
It looked exactly as ruined and desolate as it had six months ago, the trees still bearing the explosive scars of Thomas's final battle.
"Listen to me carefully," Elias said, turning around to face Rachel with absolute gravity.
"When I begin the ritual, the rift between worlds will tear wide open."
"The Abyss will flood this clearing, and Madison's consciousness will be pulled directly into the void."
"Wait, will she die?" Rachel grabbed his coat, panicked.
"No, but you have to hold onto her hands and pull her back," Elias instructed fiercely.
"A mother's love is the only physical gravity stronger than the Abyss."
"If you let go of her hands, she will be lost in the dark forever."
May you like
Rachel nodded, her jaw set with absolute, unyielding determination.
They stepped out of the vehicle and walked into the decaying cabin, ready to face the end of the world.
