Chapter 15 - The End (Happily Ever After)

The sun dipped below the horizon, painting the evening sky over the Ohio valley in brilliant shades of violet, gold, and burning crimson.
Inside the grand ballroom of the Castellano estate, a private anniversary celebration was underway.
Close friends, loyal enforcers, and trusted business partners gathered to celebrate our fifth wedding anniversary.
At the center of the room, Thomasina danced in circles with her uncle-figures, laughing hysterically.
Emmett and I stood by the grand French doors leading out to the balcony, our arms wrapped around each other as we watched the celebration.
He pulled me flush against his chest, his gray eyes reflecting the warm golden candlelight of the ballroom.
“Five years of marriage,” Emmett murmured, his deep voice thick with emotion. “And every single day, I thank whatever higher power exists that I walked into that lobby, looked behind that reception desk, and saw the strongest woman in the world.”
I smiled, resting my head against his broad shoulder.
“You didn't just walk into a lobby that day, Emmett,” I whispered softly. “You walked into my life and saved my soul. And I saved you right back.”
He chuckled, a rich, genuine sound, before capturing my lips in a deep, passionate kiss that made time itself stand still.
