PART 9: DIAMONDS FOR A REAL PRINCESS

Two weeks later, long after the internet scandal had faded into the background noise of the city, Claire brought Lily back to the boutique after closing time.
The grand fitting room looked different without the shouting voices and the suffocating tension. Soft, classical music played from the hidden speakers beneath the crystal chandeliers. Marisol, the master seamstress, and three of her team members waited beside a large mannequin covered by a velvet drape.
Lily held Claire’s hand tightly, looking around nervously. “Is this where my dress got hurt, Mommy?”
Claire knelt down to her eye level. “Yes, sweetheart. But bad memories don’t get to own good places forever. We are going to make a new memory.”
Claire nodded, and Marisol proudly pulled away the velvet cover.
Beneath it was a new princess dress, designed specifically and only for Lily. It was a masterpiece. The skirt shimmered with weightless layers of pale, ethereal blue silk that caught the light like running water. Tiny, hand-embroidered white flowers circled the delicate waist. And along the neckline, shimmering brilliantly under the chandeliers, were six genuine diamonds—one for every year of Lily’s life—secured safely inside smooth, child-safe platinum settings.
Lily gasped, her hands flying to her mouth. “Are those... are those real?”
Claire smiled, her eyes shining with unshed tears. “They are.”
“But you told Cousin Vanessa my other ones were just glass.”
“They were. This dress is very different.”
“Why?” Lily asked, looking up in wonder.
Claire brushed a soft curl from Lily’s face. “Because no one ever gets to decide that you should shine a little less, just so they can feel a little bigger.”
With gentle, loving hands, Marisol and the employees helped Lily change into the breathtaking gown. When she stepped onto the fitting pedestal, she did not look frightened. She looked radiant.
She twirled once. The silk skirt opened in the air like a blooming blue flower, the diamonds catching the light and scattering rainbows across the walls. Everyone in the room applauded enthusiastically.

Lily looked at herself in the grand mirror, her confidence entirely restored. Then she turned toward her mother, her eyes wide with innocent joy. “Do I look like a real princess, Mommy?”
Claire felt a tear slip down her cheek. She walked forward and wrapped her arms around her beautiful, resilient child. “No, my darling. You look exactly like my daughter.”
