Chapter 13 - The Final Confrontation

Claire did not drive to New York. She drove straight to the one person who knew Dominic better than anyone: Rosa Russo’s estate in northern New Jersey.
When Rosa opened the grand front door of her stone mansion, she didn't look surprised to see Claire standing in the rain.
“Come inside, bambina,” Rosa said with maternal warmth, opening her arms. “He is at the private airstrip in Teterboro. His jet is preparing to leave for Sicily in two hours.”
“Sicily?” Claire gasped. “Why is he going to Sicily?”
“Because he believes his presence in America will always bring danger to you,” Rosa said, her dark eyes filled with sadness. “He has officially signed over all Russo holdings into a blind legal trust for charity. He is walking away from everything so you can live without fear.”
Claire felt a surge of panic. “I have to stop him.”
“Take my car and driver,” Rosa smiled, pressing a kiss to Claire’s forehead. “Go get my son back.”
Meanwhile, at Teterboro Airport, rain lashed against the tarmac. A private Gulfstream jet sat idling near the hangar.
Dominic stood near the airstair, wearing a dark overcoat, staring into the rainy night. Ethan stood beside him, holding an umbrella.
“Final documents are executed, boss,” Ethan said quietly. “The syndicate is dissolved. The legitimate businesses are in the trust. You are officially a private citizen.”
“Good,” Dominic murmured, his voice hollow and dead. “Let’s board.”
“Dominic!”
A voice cut through the roar of jet engines and the drumming rain.
Dominic froze. He spun around, convinced his grief was making him hallucinate.
Running across the tarmac, soaking wet, her sapphire eyes burning with fierce determination, was Claire.
Ethan instantly smiled, stepped back, and gestured for the tarmac guards to stand down.

Dominic took three long strides toward her, catching her just as she reached him. “Claire?! What are you doing here? You shouldn't be out in this rain—”
Claire didn't let him finish. She grabbed the lapels of his heavy overcoat, pulled him down, and kissed him with all the fierce, desperate passion in her soul.
