Chapter 9 - The Reckoning

The sound of distant sirens began to fill the air. This time, they weren't the local cops on Arthur's payroll. They were the sirens of state troopers and federal agents.

"You're going to jail, Arthur," I said. "And so are your sons. For tax evasion, money laundering, conspiracy, and... for what you did to my son."

Brian tried to lunged at me, but Jax stepped forward and delivered a heavy strike to his midsection, sending him to his knees beside his brother Scott.

The warehouse doors were kicked open, and a team of federal agents rushed in, their weapons drawn.

"Federal agents! Hands in the air!"

I immediately dropped the gun, raised my hands, and stepped back. Marcus walked in behind the agents, wearing his federal credentials on his jacket. He spoke briefly to the agent in charge, pointing toward Arthur, Brian, and Scott.

The agents moved in, handcuffing the three Corbetts and dragging them toward the exit.

As they were being led away, Christine walked through the doors, flanked by two female agents. She looked at her father and brothers in handcuffs, and then at me.

"Ethan..." she sobbed, taking a step toward me. "I’m so sorry. I didn't know... I didn't want this to happen."

"You stayed behind, Christine," I said, my voice quiet but firm. "You chose them over our son. It's over."

She fell to her knees, weeping, as the agents led her away for questioning.
