Chapter 7 - The Stolen Kiss on the Yacht Deck Before the First Explosion

Sterling swallowed hard, backing into a pillar. "Enzo... Elena... I thought you had left the country after the... incident."
"We wouldn't miss your gala for the world," Elena said, stepping forward with a dazzling, predatory smile that made Enzo's chest swell with pride. "Especially since I brought the complete forensic audit of the Rotterdam accounts. The Board of Directors has already received copies."
Two private security guards in Moretti livery appeared silently behind Sterling, pinning his arms behind his back before he could make a sound.
"Take him to the harbor safehouse," Enzo ordered quietly. "Marco will conduct the audit interview."
As the guards escorted the pale, trembling executive out through a side exit, Enzo led Elena through the French doors onto the private yacht deck overlooking the harbor.
The sea breeze played with Elena's hair. The adrenaline of the confrontation was still singing in her veins. She looked down at the massive diamond on her finger.
"You're very convincing, Mr. Moretti," she whispered, looking up at him through thick lashes.
Enzo stepped closer, closing the distance between them until her back met the polished teak railing of the yacht. The city lights of Monaco glittered behind her, but Enzo was looking only at her lips.
"None of it was an act, Elena," Enzo said, his voice dropping an octave, filled with raw hunger. "The ring is yours. The protection is yours. And if you let me... I am yours."
He didn't wait for her to overthink. He cupped her face with his large hands and kissed her.

The kiss was fierce, desperate, and intoxicating. All the unspoken tension of two long years exploded between them. Elena wound her arms around his neck, pulling him closer, melting against his solid chest as the ocean waves crashed below.
Suddenly, a blinding flash of light illuminated the harbor, followed a second later by the concussive boom of an explosion at the far end of the marina.
