Chapter 6 - A Fake Engagement at the High-Roller Casino in Monte Carlo

The Grand Casino of Monte Carlo was an explosion of crystal chandeliers, gold leaf moldings, and the rustle of million-dollar silk gowns.
When the heavy gilded doors opened, every head in the room turned.
Enzo Moretti walked in wearing a bespoke black tuxedo that highlighted his broad shoulders and commanding presence. On his arm was Elena Russo, looking breathtakingly stunning in an emerald green silk dress with a daring slit, her dark hair cascading in Hollywood waves over her bare shoulders.
On her left ring finger sat a flawless twelve-carat emerald-cut diamond ring that Enzo had pulled from his private vault an hour earlier.
"Remember the story," Enzo murmured, leaning down close to her ear so it looked like an intimate whisper between lovers. "We've been secretly engaged for six months. We kept it private for security reasons. Tonight, we announce it to the board."
"Why the engagement cover?" Elena whispered back, her heart racing as his warm hand rested firmly on the curve of her waist.
"Because under international syndicate law, touching a man's employee is an insult. Touching a Don's fiancée is an immediate declaration of total war," Enzo said smoothly. "No one in this room will dare assist Sterling once they know who you are to me."

Across the ballroom, Arthur Sterling was holding a glass of vintage champagne, laughing with two European senators. When his eyes caught Enzo and Elena walking toward him, his face turned the color of curdled milk. The champagne flute slipped from his fingers, shattering on the marble floor.
"Arthur," Enzo said, his voice smooth as silk and cold as a blade. "You look surprised to see us. Did you think we were detained in our hotel room?"
