Chapter 9 - Raids at Dawn and the Shattered Illusion

At precisely 1800 hours, the sun dipped below the horizon, casting a blood-red glow over the autumn leaves surrounding the Greenwich estate.
Inside the manor, Victoria Sterling was frantically packing diamond jewelry, designer luggage, and bearer bonds into Louis Vuitton trunks in the master bedroom. Richard was on his phone, screaming at his private aviation charter company, demanding a private jet to Zurich from Westchester County Airport.
“What do you mean the flight is grounded by federal air traffic control?!” Richard roared into his phone. “I am paying you three hundred thousand dollars! Get that plane in the air!”
Suddenly, the roar of twin tactical helicopters shook the slate roof of the mansion. Spotlights with ten million candlepower illuminated the second-floor windows, turning the bedroom as bright as high noon.
Through the heavy loudspeakers mounted on the lead helicopter, a voice boomed across the estate:
“THIS IS THE UNITED STATES MARSHALS SERVICE AND DEFENSE CRIMINAL INVESTIGATIVE SERVICE. RICHARD VANCE, VICTORIA STERLING, AND JULIAN STERLING: STEP OUT OF THE RESIDENCE WITH YOUR HANDS VISIBLE. THE PROPERTY IS ENTIRELY SURROUNDED.”
Downstairs, the heavy front doors were breached with a deafening hydraulic bang. Flashbangs illuminated the foyer with concussive thunder.
Julian, who was hiding in the downstairs library trying to shred incriminating loan documents, threw himself onto the floor, sobbing uncontrollably with his hands over his head as four tactical agents secured him with zip-ties.
Upstairs, tactical officers breached the master bedroom, their rifles trained on Richard, who immediately dropped his phone and raised his shaking hands.
Victoria, however, lost all sanity. She snatched an antique silver letter opener from the vanity and shrieked, “Get out of my house! You have no right! I am Victoria Sterling! This is my estate!”
I stepped into the bedroom, walking past the line of tactical operators.
Victoria saw me, her eyes wild with madness. “You! You ungrateful, wretched little monster! You destroyed this family! You turned your father against us, and now you’ve brought an army to destroy my life!”
“You destroyed this family the night you poured poison into Dad’s tea, Victoria,” I said, my voice dropping like a lead weight into the room.
Victoria froze. The letter opener slipped from her fingers, clattering onto the hardwood floor.
“Dr. Lawson confessed,” I told her, my eyes piercing straight into her soul. “We have the digitalis batch numbers, the pharmacy records, the audio recordings, and the financial paper trail from your Cayman accounts. It’s over, Mother.”

Agent Reed stepped forward, securing the steel cuffs around Victoria’s manicured wrists.
As they led my mother, Richard, and Julian down the grand spiral staircase, the front gates of the estate opened to reveal a wall of news vans, flashing camera bulbs, and reporters from every major national network broadcasting the arrests live to millions of viewers across the country.
