Chapter 9 - Turning The Tables On The Predatory Private Syndicate

With Vanguard Sterling’s claims completely neutralized and Harrison Sterling ordering his enforcers to stand down, Abigail went on the offensive against the remaining architecture of Brandon’s fraud.
On Monday morning, Marcus Reed filed a comprehensive civil racketeering lawsuit against Brandon Vance, Clarissa Bennett, and their network of three Nevada shell companies.
The federal judge granted an immediate worldwide freezing order, seizing every bank account, vehicle, and asset tied to the conspirators.
In London, Brandon’s world had completely imploded.
The hardware wallet he had risked his entire life to steal was now an empty piece of metal; the seed phrase Dave Miller had attempted to steal was in the custody of the FBI, and the funds had already been swept.
Brandon and Clarissa were evicted from their cheap Paddington hotel after their debit cards continued to decline.
Left with only two worn suitcases and twenty-four British pounds in loose change, they sat on a wooden bench in Hyde Park in the freezing autumn drizzle.
“What do we do now?” Clarissa sobbed, her teeth chattering from the cold. “We have no money, no place to sleep, and the police are looking for us!”
“We have to go back,” Brandon whispered, staring at his soaking-wet shoes.
“Go back?!” Clarissa shrieked. “Are you insane?! If we go back, we’ll be arrested at the airport!”
“Abigail won't actually put me in prison,” Brandon insisted, clinging desperately to his final delusion. “She loves me. She’s just angry. If I go to her in person, get on my knees, and tell her how sorry I am, she’ll drop the charges. She always forgives me.”
Clarissa looked at Brandon with sheer, unadulterated hatred. “You are the most pathetic, delusional idiot I have ever met in my life.”
She grabbed her handbag, walked over to a nearby police kiosk near the park entrance, and raised her hands.
“My name is Clarissa Bennett,” she told the British constable. “There is an Interpol red notice for my arrest. I want to surrender and speak to the American Consulate.”

Brandon watched in horror from the park bench as Clarissa was handcuffed and placed into the back of a police van without even looking back at him.
He was entirely, utterly alone.
