Chapter 5 - The Forensic Audit That Exposed The Four-Year Deception

For the next forty-eight hours, the conference room of Abigail’s Haven became a high-stakes war room.
Elena Ramos and her team of forensic accountants worked around the clock, combing through every digital transaction, expense report, tax filing, and vendor invoice dating back to the day Abigail married Brandon Vance four years prior.
What they uncovered left Abigail breathless with indignation.
The affair with Clarissa was merely the latest chapter. Brandon had begun systematically bleeding the company within six months of their wedding.
“Look at this trail, Abigail,” Elena said at 2:00 AM on Wednesday, rotating her monitor. “Brandon set up three separate shell companies registered in Nevada—Silverline Logistics, Apex Design Sourcing, and Blue Ridge Holdings. For four years, he submitted fabricated consulting and procurement invoices that Clarissa routinely approved.”
“How much did he siphon through the shells?” Abigail asked, rubbing her temples.
“One point eight million dollars,” Elena replied. “And that was just the operational skimming. He used company funds to pay for luxury vehicle leases, private jet memberships, and high-end jewelry purchases billed as ‘client promotional gifts.’”
Julian Cross walked in, carrying fresh coffee. “We ran Clarissa Bennett’s personal financials through our intelligence network. Clarissa wasn't just Brandon’s lover; she was the architect. She had an offshore bank account in the Cook Islands that Brandon had been quietly feeding.”
“And what about the $3.5 million crypto wallet from Vanguard Sterling?” Abigail asked.
“We tracked the blockchain transaction,” Julian said with a grim smile. “Brandon transferred the funds into a private cold storage ledger. But he made one critical mistake: he used the company’s static IP address and Clarissa’s verified digital identity to authorize the initial ledger registration.”
Marcus Reed stood up, slamming his legal pad onto the table. “That means the crypto wallet is legally tied to the corporate fraud case. We can file an emergency federal ex parte motion for asset freeze and seizure under the Federal Defend Trade Secrets Act and wire fraud statutes.”
Abigail looked at the mountain of evidence spread before her. For years, she had believed Brandon was simply a supportive, slightly unmotivated husband who needed encouragement. She had carried the financial burden of their household, paid for every vacation, covered his credit card bills, and thanked him whenever he brought her a bouquet of flowers.
He had viewed her kindness as stupidity. He had treated her trust as a license to plunder.
“Marcus,” Abigail said, her voice hard as diamond. “File the federal motion immediately. Issue international red notices for both Brandon and Clarissa. And send a complete copy of this forensic audit to Victor Ross at Vanguard Sterling.”

“Why send it to Ross?” Marcus asked.
“Because Ross wants his $3.5 million back,” Abigail said with a cold, brilliant smile. “Right now, he thinks I have it. The moment he sees that Brandon has the private keys in London, Vanguard Sterling will stop hunting me... and start hunting Brandon.”
