Chapter 12 - Serena's Downfall at the Boardroom Table

Before our family court hearing, one final piece of business remained: the final liquidation and acquisition of Vantage Global’s distressed assets.

Vantage Global had been crippled by the fallout from Nathan and Serena’s fraud. With their enterprise value plummeting and their institutional clients fleeing, the board of directors put the entire firm up for an emergency restructuring auction.

Serena Cole, using the remnants of her family’s trust fund and backing from a shady private equity group in Los Angeles, submitted a vulture bid to purchase Vantage’s core data assets for twelve million dollars—a fraction of their true worth. She intended to take control of the firm, clear her name, and relaunch the Lumina technology under a new corporate umbrella.

On the morning of the final board auction, Serena walked into Vantage Global's executive boardroom in downtown San Francisco, wearing a designer power suit and exuding smug confidence. She believed she had outmaneuvered everyone.

Marcus Vance, who had taken over as interim chairman of the restructuring committee, sat at the head of the long mahogany table.

"We have two competing bids on the table today," Marcus announced to the assembled board members and creditors. "The first is an all-cash offer of twelve million dollars from Cole Capital Holdings."

Serena smiled victoriously, leaning back in her leather chair. "Our capital is fully liquid, Marcus. We can close the transaction within twenty-four hours and keep the remaining staff employed."

"Thank you, Serena," Marcus said calmly. "The second bid is a comprehensive acquisition and restructuring offer of twenty-eight million dollars in cash, coupled with a fifteen-million-dollar guaranteed employee retention fund."

Serena gasped, her eyes flying wide in shock. "Twenty-eight million? Who submitted that bid? That’s impossible! No other fund was cleared for due diligence!"

The heavy double doors of the boardroom swung open.

Every head at the table turned.

I walked into the room wearing an impeccably tailored emerald-green Armani suit, my dark hair styled in sleek, professional waves, carrying a slim leather portfolio. Behind me walked Gabriel and our lead corporate counsel.

"The bid was submitted by Apex Strategy Group," I said, my voice echoing with clear, unshakeable authority. "And our funds have already been verified and deposited into the escrow account of the Delaware Chancery Court."

Serena turned ghost-white. She gripped the edge of the table, her knuckles turning white, staring at me as if she had just seen an apparition.

"Hannah?" she stammered, her voice shaking violently. "You... you can't be here. You don't have this kind of money!"

"I am the founder and Chief Executive Officer of Apex Strategy Group, Serena," I said, taking a seat directly opposite her and meeting her terrified gaze. "And as of nine o'clock this morning, Marcus Vance and the primary creditors have unanimously accepted our offer."

I opened my portfolio, pulled out a certified legal notice, and slid it across the polished wood until it stopped directly in front of Serena’s trembling hands.

"As the new majority owner of Vantage Global, my first official act is the immediate termination of Cole Capital’s bidding privileges," I announced. "My second act is handing over these unsealed bank records to the federal investigators waiting in the lobby. You have ten minutes to vacate this building before security removes you."

Serena looked around the boardroom, desperately searching for an ally among the directors who had once courted her favor. Every single board member looked away, their faces stone-cold.

She grabbed her handbag, pushed her chair back so violently it overturned onto the carpet, and fled the boardroom in disgrace, shielding her face from the cameras of the corporate press waiting in the hallway.

I had bought the very company that Nathan had used to isolate, demean, and control me. And I had done it in broad daylight, with my own intellect and my own earned wealth.
