Chapter 10 - Unmasking the Mistress and the Phantom Shell Company

While Derek was being served at the corporate office, another crucial domino was falling across town.

Lena had arranged a meeting with Vanessa Thorne at a quiet, high-end cafe in SoHo. Vanessa had arrived expecting a settlement payout, dressed in designer clothes that Derek had bought with my family’s money.

When Vanessa sat down, she found not an angry wife, but Lena and our senior forensic investigator, who laid out a stack of documents on the table.

“Vanessa,” Lena said cheerfully, “we know you aren't an innocent bystander. You signed the incorporation papers for D&V Holdings Ltd. as the primary corporate officer.”

Vanessa’s smug expression instantly vanished. “I... I just did what Derek told me to do. He said it was for tax planning!”

“Tax planning involving stolen funds is called money laundering, Vanessa,” the investigator explained. “The Department of Justice considers the primary officer of a fraudulent shell company equally liable under the RICO statutes. You’re looking at ten to fifteen years in federal prison.”

Vanessa began to hyperventilate, clutching her designer bag. “I didn't steal anything! Derek told me he was going to divorce Claire within six months and take half her family’s real estate trust! He promised me we would move to Switzerland!”

“If you want to stay out of a federal penitentiary,” Lena said, leaning in, “you have exactly one hour to sign this sworn affidavit detailing every transaction, every conversation, and every offshore account Derek instructed you to create. In exchange, the Montgomery Family Trust will decline to press civil charges against you personally.”

Vanessa didn't hesitate for a second. She grabbed the pen and signed every single page, completely turning on Derek to save herself.

By 2:00 PM, we had the complete, unredacted paper trail linking Derek directly to illegal offshore accounts in the Bahamas, Panama, and Cyprus. There was nowhere left for him to run.
