Chapter 11 - The Courtroom Massacre

Two months later, the federal courthouse was packed to capacity for the trial of the century: The United States v. Isaac Vance, Arthur Vance, and Associates.
The courtroom gallery was filled with prominent reporters, former business rivals, and dozens of defrauded workers and investors who had suffered under the Vance family’s reign of corruption.
Sitting at the defense table, Isaac and Arthur looked unrecognizable. Stripped of their tailored suits, expensive haircuts, and arrogant swagger, they sat in standard prison jumpsuits, their faces sunken and pale.
Representing the United States as Special Lead Prosecutor was none other than Julian Sterling.
Julian stood before the jury, his voice commanding the room with absolute mastery.
“Ladies and gentlemen of the jury,” Julian began, presenting a massive visual timeline across multiple digital screens. “The defendants did not merely engage in financial greed. They built an empire on calculated cruelty, extortion, and deliberate endangerment of human life. They siphoned millions of dollars from public infrastructure, used substandard steel in bridges used by hundreds of thousands of citizens daily, and subjected anyone who stood in their way to intimidation, blackmail, and physical violence.”
For the next four hours, Julian systematically dismantled every shred of the defense.
Marcus took the stand as the chief forensic expert, walking the court through an airtight web of financial records that proved Isaac had directly authorized forty-five million dollars in illegal kickbacks and safety falsifications.
Caleb presented audio intercepts where Isaac was heard laughing about buying off building inspectors and joking that ‘if a bridge collapses in ten years, I’ll already be retired in Monaco.’
When the defense attorney attempted to claim that Isaac was mentally unfit and manipulated by external forces, Julian introduced the final piece of evidence: the high-definition security footage from the ballroom on Flora’s thirty-fourth birthday.
The entire courtroom watched in horrified silence as the video played on the massive screens: Isaac tying Flora to the ceiling beam, laughing as he whipped her thirty times, while Wendy cheered and Arthur boasted about their power.
Several jurors covered their mouths in disgust. The judge’s face turned into a mask of pure fury.
The jury deliberated for less than thirty-five minutes.
When they returned, the foreperson stood and read the verdict:
“On all sixty-eight counts of federal racketeering, wire fraud, structural conspiracy, attempted kidnapping, and aggravated assault... we find the defendants GUILTY on all charges.”
The judge wasted no time handing down the maximum penalties allowed under the law:
Arthur Vance was sentenced to thirty-five years in federal penitentiary with no possibility of early release.
Isaac Vance was sentenced to forty-five years at a maximum-security federal facility, along with total asset forfeiture and a court-ordered restitution fine of one hundred and twenty million dollars.

As the heavy wooden gavel struck the bench with a resounding crack, Wendy Vance fainted in the gallery, while Isaac screamed and was dragged away in chains by federal marshals, kicking and sobbing like a child.
Justice had not just been served; it had been executed with absolute, merciless precision.
