Chapter 10 - The Mistress Turns on Her Master

At the abandoned warehouse on 4th Street, Isaac paced back and forth, checking his watch every thirty seconds.
“What’s taking so long?” Isaac muttered, wiping sweat from his forehead. “They should have had her by now.”
The warehouse doors creaked open.
Isaac’s face lit up with a sick, desperate grin. “Did you get her? Did she sign—”
The words died in his throat.
Stepping into the warehouse wasn't Victor and his thugs. It was Noah Sterling, Leo Sterling, Caleb Sterling, and standing between them, looking radiant and completely untouched, was Flora.
Behind them, two tactical guards dragged Clover Sinclair into the room. She was handcuffed, wearing an orange prison jumpsuit, her hair disheveled and tears streaming down her face.
Isaac stumbled backward, tripping over a wooden pallet and crashing to the floor. “No... no, no, no...”
“Looking for your hitmen, Isaac?” Caleb asked, tossing Victor’s blood-stained leather jacket onto the floor near Isaac’s feet. “They sang like canaries. Your kidnapping conspiracy has just added twenty years without parole to your federal indictment.”
Isaac looked at Clover in absolute despair. “Clover... you told me you’d help me! You told me you had lawyers!”
Clover spat toward Isaac with utter venom. “Shut up, you pathetic loser! I gave the feds everything! I handed over all your secret offshore accounts, the recordings of you planning the structural fraud, and the audio of you bragging about bribing the city inspectors! I cut a plea deal ten minutes ago! You’re going to prison for the rest of your life!”
Isaac stared at her, his jaw hanging open in pure, unadulterated shock. “You... you betrayed me?”
“You were never a billionaire, Isaac,” Clover sneered. “You were just a spoiled, arrogant little boy living off your wife’s family trust. You were nothing without Flora, and you were too stupid to see it.”
Isaac turned his gaze toward Flora, crawling across the dusty concrete floor, weeping hysterically.
“Flora! Please! I beg you! Look at me!” Isaac sobbed, pressing his forehead against the concrete near her designer shoes. “I made a terrible mistake! I was seduced by Clover! She poisoned my mind! I still love you! We can fix this! Please don't send me to prison!”
Flora looked down at him with eyes as cold as arctic ice.

She didn't raise her voice. She didn't insult him. She simply lifted the riding crop that Noah had retrieved from the ballroom and let it drop onto the floor next to Isaac’s head.
“You told me to learn my place, Isaac,” Flora whispered. “This is yours.”
