Chapter 10 - Behind Closed Doors at Whitmore Tower

On Monday morning, the 50th floor of Whitmore Tower was buzzing with a renewed, vibrant energy. The suffocating tension that had gripped the executive suite during Ryan’s tenure had been replaced by a clean, focused determination.

I stood before the full assembly of Whitmore Group’s global executive directors, who had flown in from Singapore, London, Tokyo, and Frankfurt for our annual strategic summit.

On the massive digital wall behind me, our new five-year corporate expansion plan was illuminated in gold and navy.

"Ladies and gentlemen," I addressed the room, my voice carrying effortlessly across the vast auditorium. "The past month has tested the resilience and integrity of this institution. We witnessed an attempt by bad actors to dismantle thirty years of progress for personal greed. But an empire built on rock does not crumble because of a few rotten bricks."

The room erupted into spontaneous, resounding applause.

I outlined our new strategic initiatives: transitioning fifty percent of our European fleet to zero-emission maritime vessels, establishing our own proprietary encrypted logistics tracking blockchain, and launching an international supply-chain academy for young female engineers and executives.

When the presentation concluded, Thomas Hayes and Arthur Vance joined me in my private office overlooking Central Park.

"Claire," Thomas said, holding a series of corporate governance documents. "The board of directors has voted unanimously to combine the roles of Chief Executive Officer and Chairman of the Board, vesting total executive authority directly in your office for the next ten years."

"No more co-management structures," Arthur added, a proud smile crinkling the corners of his eyes. "Evelyn’s original trust mandate has been fully satisfied. You are the sole and undisputed head of the Whitmore empire."

I signed the governance decree with a steady hand. "Thank you, gentlemen. Let us ensure we build something that can never be compromised again."
