Chapter 7 - The Eviction from the Grand Plaza Hotel

Daniel stepped beside me, resting a hand gently on the small of my back. He turned to the general manager of the St. Regis, who was standing near the entrance with a team of security guards.

“Mr. Reyes?” the general manager asked, bowing his head respectfully.

“Who owns the master commercial deed for this property?” Daniel asked quietly.

“Your sovereign asset firm, Reyes Hospitality Holdings, sir,” the manager replied without hesitation.

“Good,” Daniel said. “The Montgomery family’s credit cards have been declined due to the emergency freeze on their corporate accounts. As the sole owner of this facility, I am revoking their event permit effective immediately.”

The manager nodded. “Understood, Mr. Reyes.”

Within sixty seconds, the ballroom house lights were flipped on to maximum brightness, replacing the romantic amber glow with the harsh, unflattering glare of fluorescent fixtures. The waitstaff immediately began clearing the untouched champagne flutes, packing up the floral arrangements, and rolling away the uneaten steak dinners.

“All guests are requested to vacate the ballroom immediately,” the manager announced over the house PA system. “This private event is terminated.”

Four hundred high-society guests scrambled for the exits, whispering furiously, grabbing their furs and coats, and avoiding eye contact with Victor and Evelyn as if the family were radioactive.

Allison sat on the floor beside the ruined wedding cake, her pristine white gown smeared with chocolate frosting and dirt, sobbing uncontrollably into her hands as Preston Caldwell marched out the front doors without looking back once.

Victor remained on his knees in the center of the empty ballroom, staring at the floorboards, completely broken.
