Chapter 15 - A Christmas Without Shadows

One year after the nightmare in Greenwich, the snow was falling softly once again.

The grand ballroom of the Dre estate was glowing with warm, golden light.

There were no corrupt bankers. No corporate schemers. No fake mistresses wearing stolen diamonds.

The room was filled with laughter, pediatric nurses, local charity workers, and families who had been helped by the foundation throughout the year.

A towering Christmas tree stood in the corner, decorated with handmade ornaments crafted by children from the local pediatric recovery center.

Arthur Dre sat in a comfortable armchair near the fireplace, holding nine-month-old Clara on his lap, reading her a picture book as she giggled and tugged playfully at his silver beard.

Marcus Vance stood beside me by the mantelpiece, holding a mug of hot spiced cider.

“Quite a difference from last Christmas,” Marcus remarked with a gentle smile.

“Last Christmas was a battlefield,” I said, watching my daughter laugh. “This Christmas is a home.”

“You built this, Serena,” Marcus said. “You took a disaster and turned it into a sanctuary.”

I looked around the room—at the warmth, the honest smiles, and the bright future stretching out before us.

My daughter looked up from Arthur’s lap, caught my eye, and let out a joyful, ringing laugh that echoed through the grand stone halls.

For the first time in my life, the shadows were completely gone.
