Chapter 11 - The Confession Tape

In March, the federal trial of United States v. Fiona Hensley & Matthias Dre dominated the national news.

I didn't have to testify in open court; my sworn deposition and the physical evidence I had gathered in the cellar were entered into the record without dispute.

Fiona Hensley attempted to take a plea deal by claiming Matthias was the mastermind behind the entire conspiracy.

However, Marcus Vance played an audio recording retrieved from Fiona’s encrypted cloud server.

On the tape, Fiona’s voice was unmistakable:

“Matthias is an easy mark. Once the old man is gone and the building burns, we pin the fraud on the Dre family name, collect the short positions, and leave Matthias holding the bag.”

The courtroom erupted.

Fiona’s plea deal was instantly revoked by the presiding federal judge.

When the jury delivered their verdict after only four hours of deliberation, Fiona Hensley was sentenced to thirty-five years in maximum security without the possibility of parole for attempted murder and corporate terrorism.

Matthias, having pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit wire fraud and insider trading, was sentenced to twelve years at the Federal Correctional Institution in Otisville.

Justice was swift, cold, and absolute.
