Chapter 15 - A Brand New Dawn and the Sweet Taste of Justice

That evening, I hosted an intimate celebration at one of Chicago’s finest rooftop restaurants overlooking the illuminated skyline.

Surrounded by my closest friends, my forensic team, and trusted colleagues who had stood by me throughout the ordeal, the atmosphere was filled with warmth, genuine laughter, and joy. There were no false pretenses, no fragile egos demanding subservience, and no fear.

Arthur Sterling raised his champagne glass, looking across the table at me with profound respect.

“To Clara Bennett,” Arthur proclaimed, smiling warmly. “A woman of unparalleled intellect, courage, and integrity. May we all be wise enough to always recognize true excellence when it sits among us.”

The entire table raised their glasses in unison, their cheers echoing beneath the starry night sky.

“To Clara!”

I raised my glass, feeling the cool crystal against my fingers. I remembered the shattered glass on the floor of the Grand Meridian six months ago—the moment Richard thought he had broken me.

That broken glass hadn't been the end of my dignity; it had been the shattering of a gilded cage.
