Chapter 10 - The Kidnapping at the Clinic: Trapped in the Viper's Den

The assault on the estate was not an ordinary raid—it was an all-out suicide strike.
Explosions tore through the front gates, shattering the grand stained-glass windows of the foyer. Gunfire erupted like rolling thunder across the courtyard. Dominic immediately shoved me behind his reinforced steel desk, drawing two heavy handguns from the hidden drawer beneath.
"Stay here!" Dominic ordered, his eyes blazing with lethal resolve. "The walls of this study are reinforced steel. Do not open this door for anyone except me or Enzo!"
"Dominic, be careful!" I cried, grabbing his lapel.
He pulled me into a brief, bruising kiss that tasted of fire and desperation. "I love you, Maya. Remember that."
He sprinted out the door, locking it from the outside.
For ten terrifying minutes, the sounds of war echoed through the mansion: grenade detonations, automatic rifle fire, screams, and the distinct, thunderous roar of Dominic’s weapons systematically eliminating the invaders.
Then, the exterior French doors of the study shattered inward in an explosion of glass and smoke.
Flashbang grenades detonated with blinding, disorienting light. I was thrown to the floor, my ears ringing violently, my vision clouded in thick gray smoke.
Before I could recover my bearings, heavy gloved hands seized my arms, pulling me violently from behind the desk. I kicked, screamed, and fought with every ounce of strength I had, driving my heel into a man's knee, but a heavy leather glove clamped a chloroform-soaked cloth over my nose and mouth.
The chemical sweetness filled my lungs. The sounds of gunfire faded into a distant hum.

The last thing I heard before slipping into darkness was a cruel, mocking voice:
"We got the girl. Tell Costa the boss is coming home."
