Chapter 8 - The Emergency Eviction Notice

Paige dropped her champagne glass. The crystal shattered on the hardwood floor, dark red wine splashing across her expensive white designer dress like blood. She looked around the room in sheer terror, but the guests who had been laughing with her minutes earlier were now stepping back, their faces twisted in utter disgust and horror.
Margaret was trembling, her hands clutching her heavy gold necklace as if it could protect her. "Travis... Travis, please... that was taken out of context! We were just trying to motivate her! You don't understand what it was like managing the household!"
Eleanor Ross stepped forward, unzipping her leather portfolio and pulling out a stack of stamped legal documents.
"Mrs. Vance, Ms. Paige Vance," Eleanor announced in a clear, authoritative tone that echoed through the stunned room. "At 4:30 PM today, Judge Harold Vance of the Federal District Court issued an emergency writ of attachment and an immediate order of eviction against both of you."
"Eviction?!" Margaret shrieked, her veneer of high-society elegance completely shattering. "This is my house! My name is on the deed!"
"The deed was purchased and improved entirely through funds unlawfully embezzled from an active-duty servicemember protected under the Servicemembers Civil Relief Act," Eleanor replied coldly. "Furthermore, forensic audit confirms that you forged Sergeant Travis Vance's signature on three separate powers of attorney and illegally transferred military dependent healthcare stipends into personal LLCs."
The two county sheriff’s deputies stepped forward, their hands resting calmly on their utility belts.
"Margaret Vance, Paige Vance," the senior deputy said, "you have fifteen minutes to gather your personal clothing and vacate these premises. All bank accounts, credit lines, and vehicle registrations under your names have been frozen by federal court order."
"You can't do this to me!" Margaret screamed, lunging toward me with claw-like hands. "I am your mother! I raised you! Everything I did, I did to give this family a good name!"
I didn't move an inch. Marcus Vance stepped smoothly between us, his broad military frame blocking her completely.
"A good name is earned through honor, ma'am," Marcus said with cold steel in his voice. "Not by starving a sick woman in a shed while wearing gold bought with your son's combat pay."
The guests began hastily making their way toward the front door, muttering in disgust, avoiding eye contact with Margaret and Paige.

"Monsters," one of Margaret's prominent country club friends whispered loudly as she pushed past the front door. "Absolute monsters."
Within ten minutes, the lavish party had completely evaporated, leaving behind half-eaten appetizers, spilled wine, and the shattered illusions of two greedy women whose empire of lies had crumbled in a single evening.
