Chapter 15 - The Only Vow That Ever Mattered: Forever Under His Protection and in His Heart

Six months later, the private gardens of the Varga estate on Bainbridge Island were bathed in the golden warmth of a perfect summer afternoon.
White roses and fragrant lavender bloomed across the manicured terraces overlooking the sparkling blue waters of the Pacific. A string quartet played softly beneath a grand arbor woven with ivy and white silk.
Standing at the altar in a bespoke black tuxedo was Dante Varga. His posture was proud, powerful, but his dark eyes were fixed solely on the stone pathway at the end of the aisle.
The music shifted into a majestic, sweeping melody.
Walking down the aisle, her hand resting gently on the arm of a beaming, proud Paulie, was Khloe.
She wore a breathtaking off-the-shoulder gown of Chantilly lace and shimmering ivory silk that trailed behind her like a waterfall of light. Her glossy brown hair was swept into an elegant updo, adorned with delicate pearl pins, and her hazel eyes sparkled with pure, unadulterated happiness.
When she reached the altar, Paulie placed her hand into Dante’s.
“Take care of her, boss,” Paulie murmured with a rare, emotional smile.
“With my life, Paulie,” Dante replied softly.
Dante took both of Khloe’s hands into his. His grip was warm, solid, and immovable—the same grip that had pulled her from the shadows beneath a restaurant table and lifted her into the light.
The officiant spoke the traditional words, but for Khloe and Dante, the ceremony was merely a public affirmation of a bond forged in fire, blood, and absolute loyalty.
“Do you, Dante Varga, take Khloe Bennett to be your lawfully wedded wife, to have and to hold, in sickness and in health, in war and in peace, till death do you part?”
Dante looked down into Khloe’s eyes, his expression radiant with deep, unconditional love.
“I do,” Dante said, his deep voice ringing out with absolute certainty. “With my body, my soul, and every breath I ever take.”
“And do you, Khloe Bennett, take Dante Varga to be your lawfully wedded husband, to love, honor, and cherish, across every storm and every triumph, till death do you part?”
Khloe smiled, a single tear of pure joy rolling down her glowing cheek.
“I do,” she whispered. “With all my heart.”
Dante slipped a band of solid platinum and flawless diamonds onto her finger, resting beside his grandmother’s heirloom emerald. Khloe slipped a matching platinum band onto his finger.
“By the power vested in me, I now pronounce you husband and wife,” the officiant declared. “You may kiss the bride.”
Dante wrapped his arms around Khloe’s waist, lifting her off her feet as he brought his lips down to hers in a deep, passionate, and unforgettable kiss.
The garden erupted into thunderous applause from the hundreds of guests, allies, and family members gathered on the lawn.
As the sun began to set behind the Olympic Mountains, painting the sky in breathtaking hues of gold, crimson, and violet, Dante and Khloe stood on the edge of the stone terrace, looking out over the endless ocean together.
Dante wrapped his arm around her waist, pulling her back against his broad chest. Khloe leaned her head against his shoulder, her fingers intertwined with his scarred hand.
“Are you happy, little mouse?” Dante murmured into her ear, his voice warm with profound peace.
Khloe turned her head, kissing his jawline right along the pale scar.
“I am home, Dante,” she whispered softly. “I am finally home.”
