Chapter 13 - Blood on the Marble: The Reckoning of Dante Varga

Dante walked through the roaring fire like a demon unleashed from the depths of hell.
He held a customized tactical shotgun in his right hand, his black combat gear soaked in the blood of the mercenaries who had tried to hold the perimeter. Behind him, Paulie and forty heavily armed Varga soldiers poured through the breach, opening a devastating, overwhelming wall of suppressive fire.
“Kill him! Kill him now!” Falcone screamed, scrambling behind a forklift for cover.
The warehouse erupted into a deafening warzone.
Gunfire ripped through steel crates, shattering glass and tearing concrete to dust. Dante moved with unstoppable, terrifying momentum. Every shot from his weapon found its mark, dropping Falcone’s mercenaries with brutal, surgical finality.
Jared, screaming in absolute, pants-wetting terror, tried to hobble toward the rear fire escape on his crutch.
Khloe, using the edge of a rusty metal bolt on the chair’s frame, severed the plastic zip-ties around her wrists. She sprang to her feet, grabbed a heavy iron pipe from the floor, and swung with all her strength directly into Jared’s good knee.
CRACK.
Jared shrieked as he collapsed into the dirt, clutching his shattered leg and sobbing like a child.
Across the room, Dante had eliminated the last of the mercenaries. He walked slowly toward the forklift where Marco Falcone was cowering, his sidearm trembling in his aged hands.
“Dante... wait!” Falcone begged, his voice cracking with pure terror. “We can make a deal! The Commission... I’ll surrender all my territory! I’ll leave the country!”
Dante stepped in front of Falcone. He knocked the pistol from the old man’s hand with one fluid strike, grabbed Falcone by the throat, and lifted the cartel boss entirely off his feet, pinning him against the steel frame of the forklift.
“You touched my wife,” Dante whispered, his voice vibrating with absolute, cold finality. “You threatened my family. There are no deals.”
With a swift, brutal snap, Dante broke Falcone’s neck and dropped the lifeless body onto the concrete floor like a bag of wet dirt.
The gunfire ceased.
The warehouse was filled with the crackle of burning timber and the heavy, ragged breathing of Dante’s men.
Dante turned around. His eyes swept across the room until they found Khloe standing beneath the emergency lights, the iron pipe still clutched in her hands, unharmed.
The lethal, terrifying fury in Dante’s face melted instantly.
He dropped his shotgun to the floor, crossed the room in three long strides, and pulled Khloe into his arms with a desperate, crushing embrace.
Khloe buried her face in his neck, wrapping her arms tightly around his broad back, tears of relief finally pouring down her cheeks. “You came for me.”
“I will always come for you, Khloe,” Dante whispered fiercely into her hair, kissing her temples, her cheeks, and her lips. “Always.”
On the floor beside them, Jared was weeping, dragging himself through the dirt toward the exit.
Paulie stepped forward, his sidearm raised. “Boss? What do we do with this roach?”

Dante didn't even look at Jared. He kept his eyes locked onto Khloe’s, his hand gently wiping a smear of soot from her cheek.
“Hand him over to the federal marshals waiting outside,” Dante said coldly. “Along with the encrypted ledger of his uncle’s money laundering operations. Jared Vance will spend the next forty years in a federal maximum-security penitentiary in Colorado. He will die in a concrete box, completely forgotten by the world.”
