Chapter 11 - The Subpoena Served on Live Television

Over the next two weeks, the downfall of Andrew Foster and his co-conspirators unfolded with the speed and brutality of an avalanche.
With Arthur Vance leading the legal prosecution and the full weight of Zachary Howard’s investigative network supporting us, the District Attorney’s office fast-tracked the indictments.
The local news stations broadcast live coverage of Andrew’s bail hearing. Because Zachary’s forensic team proved that Andrew had attempted to liquidate company assets and purchase one-way tickets to the Cayman Islands, the judge deemed him a severe flight risk. Bail was set at an unattainable two million dollars.
Unable to post bail, Andrew was remanded directly to the Bexar County Adult Detention Center.
Meanwhile, Gemma Salas was formally disbarred by the Texas State Bar Association after the digital forensics revealed she had actively forged my digital signature on three separate corporate transfer deeds. Her father’s firm, Morales & Salas, suffered a massive client exodus, forcing the senior partners to dissolve the practice entirely to avoid broader liability.
On a Tuesday morning, two weeks after the wedding that never was, I stood beside Zachary Howard on the grand stage of the St. Luke Memorial Auditorium.
Dozens of national news networks, medical journals, and tech correspondents packed the room for a live broadcast press conference.
Behind us, a massive high-definition screen displayed the blueprints of the brand-new Howard-Miller Pediatric Surgical Center—a state-of-the-art, eighty-million-dollar medical facility dedicated entirely to trauma surgery, pediatric research, and low-income emergency care.
Zachary stood at the podium, looking commanding and majestic in his dark navy suit.
“True medical progress cannot be stolen by opportunists,” Zachary spoke into the microphones, his deep voice carrying through the auditorium. “It is earned through sacrifice, brilliance, and an unwavering commitment to human life. When my daughter was dying, Dr. Samantha Miller did not hesitate. She did not check the clock. She did not care about her own wedding. She fought for a child’s heartbeat.”
Zachary turned toward me, extending his hand with deep respect. “It is my distinct honor to announce that Dr. Miller will serve as the Chief Medical Officer and Lifetime Chair of this new research institute, holding full, unrestricted patent rights to the revolutionary Miller Micro-Vascular Clamp.”
The room erupted in a standing ovation. Cameras flashed continuously.
As I walked up to the podium, I looked out into the crowd. I didn't see enemies anymore. I saw a future filled with boundless opportunity to heal, to build, and to save thousands of lives.
I delivered my speech with poise and passion, detailing the clinical advancements our new center would bring to South Texas.
Just as the press conference concluded, a commotion broke out near the media entrance.
Brenda Foster had slipped past the outer security perimeter, wearing a disheveled coat, her hair unwashed, clutching a battered purse.
“Samantha!” Brenda shrieked, pushing through the cameras before two female security guards caught her by the arms. “Samantha, you have to help us! Andrew is in jail! They’re taking our house! The bank is repossessing my car! You have millions now—just drop the charges!”
The live television broadcast captured every single second of Brenda’s desperate, undignified breakdown.
I didn't flinch. I walked to the edge of the stage, looked down at the woman who had sneered at me on the stairs two weeks ago, and spoke clearly into the lapel microphone:
May you like
“You told me two weeks ago that I already missed my chance, Brenda. Now, it’s your turn to face the consequences of yours.”
The security team escorted Brenda out into the waiting police cruiser, while the news anchors across the nation cut to commercial break, cementing the final public humiliation of the Foster family.
