Chapter 14 - The Final Stand: Protecting the Vitiello Legacy at All Costs

The raid on the docks was legendary. Mateo led a strike team of fifty men through the pouring rain, breaching the compound with C4 explosives. I monitored the radio chatter from the estate's command center, my heart in my throat with every shot fired.

"We're in," Mateo's voice crackled over the radio. "Heavy resistance in the main warehouse."

I listened to the chaos—the screams, the gunfire, the explosions. Then, silence.

"Mateo? Mateo, report!" I yelled into the mic.

Nothing.

Ten agonizing minutes passed. I was ready to grab a gun and drive to the docks myself. Finally, the radio clicked.

"Target neutralized," Mateo panted, his voice thick with exhaustion. "Moretti is dead. Lorenzo is dead. The war is over, Tessa."

I collapsed into a chair, sobbing with relief. The legacy was protected. The threat was gone. But more importantly, the man I loved had survived.

When Mateo returned at dawn, he was battered, bruised, and covered in grime, but he walked with the posture of a king. He dropped Don Moretti's ring on the table in front of his father.

Salvatore looked at the ring, then at his son, and finally at me. He slowly stood up, leaning heavily on his cane, and bowed his head slightly. A sign of ultimate respect. The torch had been passed.
