Chapter 9 - THE FEDS AND THE FINAL FILES

By midnight, federal agents had arrived at the institute to collect Marcus Vance and the contents of the wall safe he had been hunting for.

Inside that safe were indeed the final financial ledgers implicating the last remaining corrupt municipal officials in Richard Whitmore’s web of corporate extortion.

Within forty-eight hours, the city’s political landscape was completely purged of the old guard, opening the door for a new era of transparent, honest governance under city leaders who answered to the law rather than syndicate bosses or corrupt developers.

In the sunlit archives of the institute, Ava sat at her oak table reviewing the final architectural blueprints for the new south side community clinic.

The door opened.

Niko walked in, holding a small velvet box in his hand.

He didn't make a speech. He didn't drop to one knee.

He simply walked up behind her chair, gently spun her around, and opened the box.

Inside sat a ring set with a brilliant, flawless diamond surrounded by a subtle, intricate platinum band shaped like intertwining rose stems—a quiet, permanent nod to the gold key and the black rose that had brought them together.

"Ava Monroe," Niko said, his deep voice steady, absolute, and filled with a profound, unshakable devotion. "Will you marry me, and rule this empire by my side?"

Tears shimmered in Ava’s eyes, but her smile was radiant and complete.

"Yes, Niko," she whispered. "Forever."

He slid the ring onto her finger and pulled her into a deep, tender kiss that sealed their past, present, and future into one unbreakable promise.
