Chapter 15

Freedom on the Open Water
Six months later, the morning sun rose over Charleston Harbor in a brilliant blaze of gold and amber.
I stood on the deck of my newly christened yacht, The New Dawn.
The wind caught my hair as we cleared the breakwater and headed out into the open Atlantic.
On my left wrist, I wore a simple silver bracelet.
In my pocket rested my father’s restored pocket watch, ticking steadily, marking every single second of a brand-new life.
My phone buzzed on the helm console.
A text from Miller: Clear skies ahead, Captain.
I typed my final reply.
Me: Full speed ahead.
I pushed the throttles forward.
The twin engines roared to life beneath my feet, surging into the salt-kissed horizon.
I was no longer anyone’s trophy.
I was no longer hiding behind closed doors.
I was the captain of my own destiny.
