Chapter 6 - THE RUTHLESS HUNT BEGINS

In his private study, Adrian slammed his fist against the mahogany desk.

Glassware rattled violently.

“What do you mean she’s not at her parents' house?!” Adrian roared into his encrypted phone.

“We checked, Boss,” a nervous voice stammered from the other end.

“The house is completely cleaned out. No credit card usage, no airline tickets under her name.”

“Check cash withdrawals!”

“Nothing for five days.”

Adrian ended the call and threw the phone against the brick fireplace.

It shattered into a dozen pieces.

He looked across the room at Lily Monroe, who sat on the leather sofa wrapped in a silk shawl.

“She knows,” Adrian muttered, pacing the Persian rug.

“Claire knows about the safehouses?” Lily asked nervously.

“Claire knows everything,” Adrian stopped walking, his eyes dark with sudden realization.

“She packed her bags the exact night I came back from the hospital.”

“She didn't run away because she was scared, Lily.”

“She ran away because she was preparing.”

“Find her,” Adrian snarled, grabbing his jacket from the back of the chair.

“Check every private airstrip, every hotel, every bank box in Illinois.”

“If she tries to file those papers, I want to know before they hit the courthouse.”

He stormed out of the mansion, climbing into his black bulletproof sedan.

He believed he could cage me again.

He didn't know I was already holding the key to his cell.
