Chapter 15 - A NEW DAWN AND A CROWN OF MY OWN — THE END

One year later, the autumn air over Lake Michigan was crisp and golden.

I stood on the private balcony of my penthouse overlooking the shimmering skyline of Chicago.

I wore a sharp white blazer, holding a cup of steaming black coffee.

Down on the street below, cars rushed past like tiny ants.

People hurried through crosswalks, chasing their own destinies.

I wasn't hiding anymore.

I wasn't waiting for a man to return from a hotel room in Miami.

I wasn't wondering whose call he was taking behind closed doors.

The fear that had once paralyzed me in that kidnapping chair was gone, burned away by the fire of betrayal and reborn as unbreakable strength.

Footsteps echoed softly behind me on the hardwood floor.

Marcus stepped onto the balcony holding a fresh tablet.

“The London acquisition is finalized, Claire,” Marcus smiled.

“Congratulations, Boss. You’re officially the majority shareholder.”

“Thank you, Marcus,” I smiled, taking a sip of my coffee.

“Set up the press conference for tomorrow morning.”

“Let the world know Bennett Capital is expanding overseas.”

Marcus nodded and walked back inside, leaving me alone with the breeze.

I looked out toward the horizon where the sun was dipping below the lake, painting the clouds in brilliant shades of violet and gold.

Adrian Moretti had taught me how cruel the world could be.

But he had also taught me how to survive it.

And as I raised my coffee cup to the morning sun, I knew one thing with absolute certainty:

The woman he thought would always wait for him had finally found her own throne.

May you like

And she was never looking back.

THE END
