Chapter 6 - The Boardroom Massacre and the Rightful Heir

The Mitchell Medical Technologies headquarters was a sixty-story glass monolith towering over Michigan Avenue. It was designed to project absolute power, cold modernism, and infinite wealth.
At seven-forty-five the next morning, the grand executive boardroom on the fifty-eighth floor was packed with panic.
The twelve members of the board of directors—wealthy venture capitalists, retired senators, and high-powered pharmaceutical executives—were shouting over one another. On the giant video screens surrounding the room, financial news networks were broadcasting live updates of the company’s collapsing stock price.
"We lost one point two billion dollars in market cap in twelve hours!" screamed Arthur Davies, the senior investment director from Blackwood Capital. "The FDA has suspended our commercial distribution license pending the criminal investigation! Where the hell is Jason?!"
The frosted glass doors of the boardroom slid open.
Jason Mitchell strode into the room, flanked by two corporate attorneys and his personal bodyguard. He had not slept. His eyes were bloodshot, his designer shirt slightly wrinkled, but he was desperately trying to project an air of complete control.
"Calm down! Everyone sit down!" Jason bellowed, slamming his briefcase onto the center of the mahogany conference table. "This is a coordinated smear campaign orchestrated by my mentally unstable ex-wife and a rogue attorney looking for a massive settlement payout. Our legal team is filing a defamation lawsuit this morning, and we have emergency financing coming from our Swiss partners."
"There is no Swiss financing, Jason," Arthur Davies spat back. "We called Credit Suisse an hour ago. They froze your lines of credit the moment the Department of Justice announced their investigation. You lied to us about the patent provenance!"
"I am the CEO and Founder of this company!" Jason roared, his face turning crimson, veins bulging in his neck. "I hold thirty-four percent of the voting equity! You cannot remove me without a supermajority, and none of you have the votes!"
"He's right," a clear, calm voice echoed from the doorway. "They don't have the votes."
The entire boardroom turned.
The double doors parted completely.
I walked into the room.
I was no longer wearing the oversized gray coat. I was dressed in a tailored, sharp ivory-white pantsuit that contrasted brilliantly with the dark wood of the boardroom. My head was held high, my dark hair pulled back into an elegant chignon, revealing the faint trace of the scar along my jawline with absolute pride.
Beside me walked Daniel Brooks, followed by four federal court-appointed marshals and two corporate forensic accountants carrying massive boxes of financial records.
Jason froze, his jaw dropping as if he had just seen a ghost walk through the wall.
"Iris...?" Jason gasped, his voice cracking. "What are you doing here? Security! Security, remove this woman from the premises!"
The two building security guards at the door didn't move an inch. In fact, they stood at attention, their eyes fixed firmly on the federal marshals.
"The security guards work for the building, Jason," I said smoothly, taking slow, measured steps toward the head of the conference table. "And as of seven o'clock this morning, the building, the land it sits on, and the holding company that owns forty-six percent of Mitchell Medical Technologies are under the sole administration of the Vance Legacy Endowment."
Daniel Brooks stepped forward, placing a certified legal decree in front of Arthur Davies and the other board members.
"Under Section 402 of the Delaware General Corporation Law," Daniel announced, "a shareholder holding greater than forty percent of voting equity may call an immediate emergency shareholder vote in the event of documented executive malfeasance, criminal indictment, or intellectual property usurpation. Mrs. Iris Vance-Mitchell controls forty-six percent of the legacy shares, along with proxies granted thirty minutes ago by Blackwood Capital and Vanguard Investments."
Daniel turned his gaze directly upon Jason.
"The combined voting power against you, Mr. Mitchell, is seventy-four percent."
The board members didn't hesitate for a single second.
"All in favor of the immediate termination of Jason Mitchell as Chief Executive Officer, Chairman of the Board, and Director of Mitchell Medical Technologies?" Arthur Davies called out.
Every single hand at the table went into the air.
Except Jason’s.
Jason stood there, isolated, stripped of his title, his authority, and his empire in less than sixty seconds. He looked around the room, looking at men who had kissed his ring for years, men who had toasted his genius at charity galas, and saw nothing but cold, merciless dismissal.
"You can't do this to me," Jason stammered, pointing a shaking finger at me. "I built this! I made your father's worthless garbage into a multi-billion-dollar empire! You would be nothing without me, Iris! Nothing!"
I walked up to the head of the table, stopped directly in front of his chair—the chair that had my father's original company crest secretly engraved on the underside—and placed both hands on the table.
"My father's work saved millions of lives," I said, my voice cutting through him like a diamond blade. "You were just the thief who broke into the vault while the house was on fire. Now, get out of my chair."
One of the federal marshals stepped forward, placing a heavy hand on Jason’s shoulder.
"Mr. Mitchell," the marshal said firmly. "You are trespassing on private corporate property. You have five minutes to vacate the premises, or you will be placed under immediate arrest."
Jason looked at the marshal, then at the board, and finally at me.
His eyes were filled with a wild, cornered madness. He grabbed his briefcase, his hands trembling with uncontrollable rage, and hissed under his breath:
May you like
"This isn't over, Iris. You think you won? You haven't seen anything yet."
He turned and stormed out of the boardroom, his footsteps echoing down the long, empty marble hallway like the death rattle of a fallen king.
