Chapter 10 - THE SECRET LEDGER REVEALED
Silence fell over the four hundred guests.
Nobody dared to breathe.
Even the jazz quartet near the terrace stopped playing.
Dante clutched the papers so hard his knuckles turned white.
“You can’t do this,” Dante whispered, his voice cracking with suppressed panic.
“This is our company.”
“This was your company,” I corrected him loudly, turning to face the ballroom.
“Ladies and gentlemen,” I announced, my voice carrying clearly across the silent hall.
“Thank you for attending tonight.”
“Before you enjoy dinner, there is a small family matter to address.”
Dante lunged forward, grabbing my arm.
“Elena, stop—!”
“Let go of me, Dante,” I commanded, my tone so sharp he physically recoiled.
“For eight years, I stood behind this man while he ran his empire on intimidation, corruption, and betrayal.”
“He believed that because I loved him, I would tolerate his infidelities.”
“He believed that because I was quiet, I was weak.”
I held up a USB flash drive between my fingers.
“On this drive is every illegal wire transfer, every bribe paid to city officials, and every shadow ledger documenting Caruso Atlantic’s criminal operations.”
Gasps erupted across the room.
Several prominent politicians turned pale, frantically reaching for their phones.
“I have already uploaded a secure copy to the Department of Justice and the New York Times,” I continued, my eyes scanning the terrified faces in the crowd.
“Effective immediately, I am filing for divorce.”
“And I am dissolving Caruso Atlantic Holdings from the inside out.”
Dante stared at me in absolute horror.
“You’ve destroyed everything,” he breathed, his voice hollow.
“I didn't destroy anything, Dante.”
“I just removed the foundation of lies you built it on.”
I turned toward the exit doors.
The bodyguards by the entrance didn’t move.
They didn’t look at Dante for orders anymore.

And slowly, respectfully, they stepped aside and pulled the heavy brass doors open.
