Chapter 47 - The Oath of the Sovereign

The night deepened, wrapping the estate in a cocoon of absolute silence. After a quiet, elegant dinner served by the staff in the private dining room, we walked out onto the second-floor stone balcony that overlooked the front courtyard and the grand iron security gates below.
The air was crisp and invigorating, carrying the scent of pine and distant woodsmoke. Below us, the heavy iron gates stood closed and locked against the outside world. To anyone else, those gates might have looked like a prison wall—a barrier separating the inhabitants from society.
But looking down at them now, I saw them for what they truly were.
"The gates are closed," I noted quietly, resting my hands on the cold stone railing.
Elena stood beside me, her breath pluming in the cool night air as she looked down at the dark, imposing silhouette of the entrance.
"They've always been closed to the chaos," she replied softly.
"Yes," I said, turning to look at her in the starlight. "But for a long time, we closed them to keep the enemy out. Now... we close them to keep the rest of the world from disturbing our eternity."
Elena turned her head, meeting my gaze. Her dark eyes shone with an inner light that outshone the stars above. There was no hesitation in her expression, no doubt, no lingering shadow of the past. There was only the absolute certainty of two souls who had crossed the desert of survival and built an oasis of absolute sovereignty.
She reached out, her fingers brushing against my lapel before sliding up to cup my cheek. Her touch was warm, steady, and filled with a depth of love that words could never fully capture.
"We won, Julian," she whispered, her voice carrying an undeniable power. "Every battle, every betrayal, every sacrifice—it brought us to this exact moment. We own our lives. We own our future. There is nothing left to conquer."

I leaned into her hand, closing my eyes for a fraction of a second to savor the absolute perfection of the truth in her words.
"Then let's live it," I answered, my voice steady, resonant, and absolute.
