Chapter 15 - The Golden Horizon and the Triumph of the True King

One year later.

The sunset over the Umueze Valley was a masterpiece of liquid gold, fiery orange, and deep violet.

The once-barren hills were now alive with clean, humming green-technology infrastructure. Deep below the surface, sustainable electric mining haulers moved with quiet efficiency, while above, vast solar arrays powered modern schools, hospitals, and bustling local markets.

Ekenna stood on the wide stone terrace of the hill villa he had built for his family.

Beside him stood Amina, her hand resting gently inside his. Her fingers were adorned with a simple, breathtaking band forged from pure Umueze tantalum and set with a raw, brilliant green tourmaline crystal that Ekenna had mined with his own hands from his first borehole core.

Mama Ngozi sat nearby on the terrace under the shade of a flowering bougainvillea, holding her six-month-old grandson in her lap, softly singing an ancient lullaby of gratitude and peace.

A cool, sweet evening breeze swept up from the valley, carrying the distant, joyful laughter of children playing in the new community park named after Ekenna's late father.

Ekenna looked down at his right hand.

The scars from carrying thirteen-naira concrete blocks were still faintly visible across his palms and knuckles—permanent badges of honor that reminded him of who he was, where he had come from, and what he had survived.

He remembered the scorching midday sun of graduation day. He remembered the cold dust that had settled on his abandoned degree. He remembered the sound of the G-Wagon accelerating away, leaving him broken and humiliated in the dirt.

If Chidimma had not broken his heart, he would have settled for an ordinary, comfortable job. If Daniel had not thrown money into the mud, he would never have unlocked the volcanic fire that drove him to conquer the depths of the earth.

Their cruelty had been the very hammer that forged his crown.

Ekenna lifted his head, breathing in the fresh evening air, his eyes fixed on the boundless golden horizon.

The earth had hidden its greatest treasures in the darkest, hardest stone, waiting only for a man with the courage to bleed for it. And now, standing atop the world he had built with his own two hands, the broke geologist had finally claimed his kingdom.
