Chapter 15 - THE HAPPY ENDING

The wedding was small, quiet, and held on a sun-drenched Saturday morning in April, just as the snow melted and the first green shoots began to push through the soil at Ravenscliffe.

There were no senators, no corrupt politicians, and no mafia bosses in attendance.

Just Abel standing proudly as the best man, Bernadette smiling softly from the front row wiping a tear from her eye with a lace handkerchief, and a small group of trusted friends from the neighborhood who had known Arthur Whitaker when he was just an honest cop trying to feed his family.

Nell stood at the altar in a gown of simple white silk, her hand resting comfortably in Rafe's warm, strong grip.

When the minister pronounced them husband and wife, Rafe pulled her close and kissed her—not with the desperate urgency of men at war, but with the deep, unshakeable certainty of a man who had finally found home.

Six months later, the city of Boston was a different place.

The old syndicates were gone, dismantled from the inside out by federal prosecutors working with the unassailable evidence from the Commonwealth Bank vault. The docks were clean, the housing projects were finished and filled with families, and the name Santoro no longer inspired terror—it inspired respect.

On a bright autumn afternoon, Nell stood on the stone terrace of Ravenscliffe, her hand resting gently on her swelling stomach, looking out over the harbor where the sunlight danced across the water like scattered diamonds.

Footsteps sounded behind her.

Strong arms wrapped around her from behind, and a warm hand rested over hers on her stomach.

"Are you standing in the cold again?" Rafe asked, pressing a soft kiss to the side of her neck.

"I'm not cold at all," Nell smiled, leaning back into his embrace as the distant sound of a ship's horn echoed across the harbor. "I'm warmer than I've ever been."

Rafe smiled, resting his chin on her shoulder as they watched the sun dip below the Boston skyline, painting the clouds in shades of gold and amber.

The shadows were gone. The storm had passed. And for the first time in her life, the future stretched out before them without a single dark secret left to hide.
