Chapter 15 - THE ENDLESS HORIZON

Evening descended slowly over Lake Michigan.
The sky turned into a vast canvas of deep indigo, rose, and burnished gold.
Inside the nursery, little Thomas slept peacefully in his handcrafted cherrywood crib.
Leo was tucked into his bed down the hall, fast asleep after a day of playing by the water.
Adrien and Isabella walked hand in hand down the stone path leading to the private beach.
The waves lapped gently against the smooth pebbles of the shore.
The cool evening air moved around them, but Isabella felt only warmth.
Adrien stopped near the water’s edge.
He pulled her back against his chest, wrapping his arms securely around her waist.
Isabella leaned back, resting her head against his shoulder.
Together, they watched the distant lights of ships moving peacefully across the horizon.
“Do you remember the day I came home early?” Adrien asked softly into her hair.
Isabella smiled, her fingers tracing the gold wedding band on his hand.
“I remember every second.”
“I was standing by the door with my little black suitcase.”
“I was so terrified you would look at my wrist and know I was hiding something.”
Adrien kissed the hollow beneath her ear.
“When you walked past me that afternoon, my whole world went dark.”
“I didn't realize until that exact moment that you weren't just living in my house.”
“You had become my home.”
Isabella turned in his embrace to face him.
She reached up and framed his chiseled jaw with both of her hands.
The moonlight reflected off the gentle waves, illuminating the fierce, beautiful devotion in his dark eyes.
“I left the key on the table that day because I thought leaving was the only way to save you,” she whispered.
“And you taught me that staying was the only way to truly live.”
Adrien leaned down, resting his forehead against hers.
“No one leaves this house ever again, Isabella.”
“No one,” she agreed softly.
He brought his lips down to hers.
The kiss was sweet, deep, and filled with the quiet certainty of a lifetime together.
The night enveloped them in cool, peaceful shadows.
Behind them, high on the bluff, the Voss estate stood bathed in golden light.
A fortress of stone and glass.
No longer a prison of silence.
Now a sanctuary of love.
Safe.
Whole.
May you like
Eternal.
