Chapter 14 - THE VOSS LEGACY

One year later.

A warm summer breeze blew off Lake Michigan, rustling the emerald leaves of the ancient oak trees.

On the stone terrace of the Voss estate, an outdoor brunch table was set with fresh fruit, pastries, and chilled champagne.

Leo, now eight years old, was running across the lush green lawn, kicking a soccer ball back and forth with Marco.

The sound of the boy’s bright laughter drifted up to the terrace.

Isabella sat in a comfortable white wicker armchair, wearing a light floral sundress.

In her arms, wrapped in a pale blue blanket, was two-month-old Thomas Voss.

The baby had a tuft of dark hair and his father’s calm, observant eyes.

Adrien stepped out onto the terrace.

He wore casual white linen trousers and an open-collared navy shirt.

He looked younger, relaxed, and deeply at peace.

The coldness that had defined him for decades had melted into the steady, unbreakable warmth of a devoted husband and father.

He walked over to the chair and knelt beside Isabella.

He leaned down and kissed his sleeping son’s soft forehead.

Then he turned and kissed Isabella’s lips with lingering sweetness.

“How is he?” Adrien asked quietly.

“He just finished his bottle,” Isabella smiled down at their child.

“He falls asleep the second the lake breeze hits his face.”

Adrien reached out and let the baby’s tiny fingers wrap around his index finger.

The sight of the mafia king’s lethal hand being held by an infant was pure poetry.

“The city council approved the new port charter this morning,” Adrien mentioned softly.

“All three shipping terminals are now managed under a public-private trust.”

“No syndicates.”

“No bribes.”

“Just fair wages and clean trade.”

Isabella looked at her husband with deep admiration.

“Your father would be proud, Adrien.”

“My father would be amazed,” Adrien replied with a soft chuckle.

“He never knew that the greatest strength a man can have is someone to protect.”

He sat on the stone balustrade beside her, wrapping his arm around her shoulders.

Isabella rested her head against his chest.

Down on the lawn, Leo scored a goal against Marco and cheered, raising his arms to the sky.

Marco clapped and chased the boy across the grass.

The sun shone warm and golden over the water.

The shadows of the past were completely gone.

There were no more suitcases waiting by the door.

There were no more secrets hidden in sealed envelopes.

There was only this house, this family, and a love that had conquered darkness itself.
