Chapter 8 - The Ghost Protocol in Full Effect

Walter Holbrook, Wyatt, Brantley, and Richter rushed toward the panoramic reinforced glass windows overlooking the estate’s twelve-acre front lawn.
Outside, the estate’s high-powered floodlights suddenly flickered and died, plunging the entire compound into pitch-black darkness.
A split second later, the estate’s automated perimeter defense turrets—multi-million-dollar computerized miniguns installed to protect against high-threat incursions—began rotating on their mounts.
“What are the turrets doing?!” Wyatt screamed.
In the warehouse command center, Julian Vance smiled as he typed a final command into his override terminal.
“OVERRIDE COMPLETE: TASK FORCE VANGUARD OWNS FIRE CONTROL.”
Across the lawn, the robotic defense turrets opened fire—not at intruders, but directly at Walter Holbrook’s fleet of armored luxury SUVs, fuel depots, and communications arrays parked in the courtyard.
Tracer rounds lit up the night sky in blinding arcs of red and gold. Explosions ripped through the armored vehicles, sending massive fireballs mushrooming into the storm clouds above.
Inside the compound, Richter’s mercenaries panicked, firing blindly into the darkness as the automated defenses systematically destroyed every piece of Holbrook hardware outside the main house.
Then came the breach.
Marcus Hayes and Leo Castiglione moved like twin specters through the rear security sector. Utilizing thermal-suppressed carbines and non-lethal flash-bang charges, they neutralized the outer perimeter guards with surgical precision.
Every mercenary who raised a weapon found themselves disarmed, swept off their feet, and incapacitated before they could even register the movement in the smoke.
“Sector Four clear!” Marcus barked over the tactical headset. “Breaching the secondary ballroom doors now!”
I walked through the shattered front entrance of Holbrook Manor, stepping over the smoking debris of the reinforced gate. In my hands, I carried no heavy weapons—only my service sidearm holstered at my hip and the cold, unyielding resolve of a father seeking complete and total justice.
The main hallway was filled with thick, swirling smoke from stun grenades. Richter, Holbrook’s top mercenary, stepped out from behind a marble pillar, raising an assault rifle directly at my chest.
“Freeze, Vance!” Richter yelled, his finger tightening on the trigger.
I didn't freeze.
In one continuous, fluid motion born of thirty years of lethal combat mastery, I sidestepped his line of fire, closed the five-foot gap between us, and drove the heel of my palm into the nerve cluster beneath his ear.
Richter’s rifle clattered to the floor. Before he could recover, I executed a sweeping hip throw, slamming his armored body onto the marble floor, and followed through with a targeted strike to his radial nerve.

Richter lay paralyzed, gasping for breath, completely immobilized in under three seconds.
I stepped over him and kicked open the double mahogany doors to the central safe room.
