Chapter 15 - Sunrise Over the Lake

The terrace was completely silent except for the gentle rustle of spring leaves and the distant, sweet melody of the violins inside the ballroom.
I looked down at the man kneeling before me.
The feared sovereign of Chicago.
The boy who had lost his mother in the dark.
The man who had risked everything to shield me from bullets and fire.
My chest swelled with an emotion so powerful it felt like sunrise bursting through a storm.
“Yes, Luca,” I whispered, laughing through my tears.
“Yes. A thousand times yes.”
A breathtaking smile illuminated Luca’s face.
He slipped the sapphire ring onto my fourth finger.
It fit flawlessly.
He rose from the stone terrace, wrapped his powerful arms around my waist, and lifted me completely off my feet.
I buried my face in his neck, wrapping my arms around his broad shoulders as he spun me beneath the starlight.
When he set me down, his hands cradled my face, and he kissed me with a fierce, passionate tenderness that left us both breathless.
Applause suddenly erupted behind us.
We turned toward the French doors.
Standing on the terrace threshold was Lucia, wiping happy tears from her cheeks with a lace handkerchief.
Beside her stood Daniel, grinning broadly, holding two glasses of vintage champagne.
Salvatore Falcone was clapping loudly, nodding his approval with a wide, proud smile.
“It's about time, my boy!” Lucia cried out, hurrying forward to wrap her arms around both of us.
She hugged me tightly, kissing both of my cheeks.
“Welcome home, my daughter,” Lucia whispered into my hair.
“Thank you, Lucia,” I smiled, holding her frail, strong hands.
Daniel stepped forward, handing Luca and me the champagne flutes.
“To the new Don and Donna Moretti,” Daniel announced, raising his glass high into the night air.
“To the Don and Donna!” the guests chorused from the open doors, raising their flutes in celebration.
We drank the crisp champagne under the stars, surrounded by warmth, loyalty, and true family.
Later that night, long after the last guests had departed and the ballroom lights were dimmed, Luca and I walked up the grand staircase together.
We walked down the quiet, carpeted corridor of the west wing.
We stopped outside the master suite.
Luca turned toward me, taking my hand and looking down at the sapphire sparkling on my finger.
“No more secrets in this house, Emma,” he promised softly, his thumb tracing the platinum band.
“No more secrets, Luca,” I agreed, resting my head against his shoulder.
He opened the bedroom doors, leading me inside into the warm, golden glow of the hearth.
For the first time in twenty-two years, the Moretti estate was filled with light, laughter, and unbreakable peace.
The past had been uncovered, the villains had fallen to their own greed, and love had rebuilt everything from the ashes.

And as the first rays of the morning sun broke over the calm blue horizon of Lake Michigan, I knew our story was only just beginning.
THE END.
