Chapter 15 - THE DAWN OVER LAKE ONTARIO — THE END

One year after the storm, the morning sun rose over Lake Ontario, casting a brilliant golden glow across the water.

I stood on the back porch of our home, holding a cup of steaming coffee.

The wind carried the fresh scent of blooming cherry blossoms and lake water.

The pain of losing Grace would never truly disappear—a piece of our hearts would always remain buried beneath that cherry tree on the hill.

But life had found a way to bloom again in the ruins.

Alexander stepped out onto the porch, wrapping his arms securely around my waist, pulling me back against his warm chest.

He rested his chin gently on my shoulder, breathing in the scent of my hair.

“What are you thinking about?” he murmured against my neck.

“I was just thinking about how far we’ve come,” I smiled, leaning back into his embrace.

“If someone had told me five years ago that the most feared mafia boss in Chicago would be making pancakes in a quiet Canadian suburb, I would have laughed.”

“And if someone had told me that an ordinary girl would teach a monster how to love, I wouldn't have believed them either,” Alexander whispered fiercely.

He tightened his arms around me, his gray eyes shining with absolute peace.

The mafia boss had lost his empire, but he had found his soul.

And as I raised my coffee cup to the morning sun, I knew with absolute certainty that our story wasn't defined by the tragedy of our past.

It was defined by the grace of our survival.
