Chapter 15 - The Vow in Cedar and Gold

That night, after the last guests had departed and the grand ballroom had fallen quiet, Luca and I walked up to the private library on the third floor.
The fire crackled warmly in the hearth, casting long, golden shadows across the mahogany shelves.
In the center of the room stood the old cedar chest—restored, polished, and glowing with the rich patina of age. The carved rose on the lid gleamed under the soft lamplight.
Luca walked over to the chest and opened the heavy lid.
Inside the blue velvet interior, resting safely beside Isabella’s original letters, was a new leather-bound journal.
Luca picked up the pen from his desk, turned to a fresh, creamy parchment page, and handed the pen to me.
“Every generation writes its own chapter, Claire,” Luca said softly, wrapping his arms around my waist from behind, resting his chin on my shoulder. “Write ours.”
I smiled, my heart overflowing with peace, and set the pen to the paper.
In elegant, flowing script, beneath Isabella Moretti’s final entry, I wrote three simple sentences:
“The bloodline was never lost; it was merely waiting for love to bring it home.
The treaty is sealed forever in truth and honor.
Claire, Luca, Lily, and Isabella Moretti — United, Unbroken, and Free.”
I closed the journal and placed it gently inside the cedar chest, letting the heavy lid close with a soft, final click.
Luca turned me in his arms, his dark eyes looking down into mine with an eternity of devotion, passion, and peace.
He leaned down and captured my lips in a slow, tender, breathtaking kiss by the warmth of the hearth fire.
The ghosts of the past were finally at rest.
The empire was built on love.
And our story had only just begun.
