Part 5: The Bond of the Broken

The romantic love that Julian and Eliana had shared died on that altar. It was instantly suffocated by the horrifying, unnatural reality of their bloodline.
But as Eliana swayed on her feet, the world spinning dangerously out of control, Julian reached out and caught her arm.
He didn't hold her like a groom holding a bride. He held her like a lifeline. He held her like a brother protecting his sister from the monster who had created them.
“We’re leaving,” Julian said, his voice eerily calm.
He turned his back on Silas. He reached down and gently helped the ragged woman to her feet.
“Julian!” Silas barked, his voice cracking with desperation as he realized his empire was crumbling before the eyes of the city's elite. “If you walk away from this altar, you walk away from the trust! I will cut you off! I will leave you with nothing!”
Julian didn't even look back.
He took his tuxedo jacket off and draped it over the shivering shoulders of the woman who had sacrificed everything to bring him the truth. Then, he offered his other hand to Eliana.
Eliana looked at the crowd of stunned guests. She looked at her adoptive parents in the second row, who were weeping, clearly unaware of the horrific manipulation they had been a part of. She reached down, unclasped the million-dollar diamond necklace Silas had given her as a wedding gift, and let it fall onto the marble steps alongside the crushed orchids.
She took Julian’s hand.
Together, the three of them walked down the aisle. The guests parted in absolute silence, moving out of the way as if making a path for survivors of a shipwreck.

They didn't know what their future held. They didn't know how to untangle the devastating psychological knot of having loved their own sibling, or how to begin healing from a lifetime of lies. But as they walked out of the massive wrought-iron gates of the estate, leaving Silas screaming behind them in the ruins of his perfect wedding, one thing was absolutely certain.
They were no longer pawns in a billionaire's game. They were family. And for the first time in their lives, it was real.
