Chapter 11 - The Hammer of Justice Falls on Mason's Paper Empire

Two months later, the criminal trial of Mason Hollingsworth concluded in the county superior court.

The courtroom was packed with journalists, former clients Mason had swindled, and curious spectators. Mason sat at the defense table in a bright orange prison jumpsuit, his hands shackled to his waist, his arrogant demeanor completely crushed by the overwhelming weight of digital evidence, forensic audit logs, and testimony from former employees.

Judge Hastings did not hold back.

“Mr. Hollingsworth,” the judge declared from the bench, his voice echoing through the silent courtroom, “you operated a parasitic enterprise fueled by unbridled greed and profound narcissism. You abused family ties, forged executive documents, and siphoned over four million dollars to fund an illusion of grandeur. The court finds no mitigating circumstances.”

The sentence was read: fourteen years in maximum-security state prison, with full restitution orders seizing every asset, bank account, and luxury vehicle registered to his name.

Eleanor Hollingsworth was sentenced to five years of supervised probation and complete financial forfeiture, forced to surrender her suburban home to satisfy bankruptcy claims from creditors.

As the bailiffs led Mason away through the side door, his eyes briefly met mine in the second row of the gallery. There was no defiance left in his gaze—only the terrifying realization that his entire life of shortcuts, fraud, and hollow arrogance had led him straight into a concrete cage.
