Chapter 6 - The Vanished Sister Who Broke Through the Gates

At 8:30 AM the following morning, a sudden commotion erupted at the security checkpoint of the ICU pavilion.
“Get your hands off me! I am her biological sister!”
A young woman in a rain-soaked wool coat and mud-splattered boots burst past the security guard, clutching a battered leather handbag.
Her face was an exact mirror of Emily’s—the same high cheekbones, the same wide hazel eyes—though her expression was consumed by a desperate, breathless panic.
“Claire?” Emily whispered from the bed, her monitor beeping with sudden, emotional elevation.
“Emily! Oh my God, Emily!”
Claire sprinted across the room, collapsing onto her knees beside the bed, burying her face into Emily’s left shoulder, weeping with the raw, agonizing grief of someone who had found a ghost alive.
“I thought you were dead!” Claire sobbed, kissing Emily’s forehead over and over. “Daniel told me you moved to London last year! He blocked my number from your phone! He sent me fake emails from a European address saying you never wanted to speak to me again!”
Detective Sharon Martinez stepped into the room, holding a digital tablet.
“Claire,” Detective Martinez said gently. “How long has Daniel kept Emily isolated from your family?”
Claire stood up, wiping her tears with trembling hands, her eyes blazing with an ancient, furious fire.
“Fourteen months,” Claire revealed. “The moment our parents passed away in a car accident and Emily inherited the family trust estate, Daniel moved her to a gated, ten-acre property in Barrington Hills with ten-foot security walls. Whenever I drove to the gates, armed private security guards turned me away, claiming Emily was suffering from severe agoraphobia and refused visitors.”
Claire turned to look at Emily’s suspended, pinned arm, her hands flying to her mouth in horror.

“He stole her life,” Claire cried. “He took my sister and trapped her like an animal!”
“He didn't just steal her life, Claire,” I said softly, stepping up beside the bed. “He tried to cash it in. But Emily is a fighter. And today, we are going to make sure he pays for every single second of that nightmare.”
