Chapter 13 - The Legal War and the Public Unraveling of a Billion-Dollar Conspiracy

We never returned to the Long Island mansion.

I sold the limestone estate to a commercial land developer who demolished the structure to build a municipal nature preserve and public park. The house that had held our darkest nightmares was erased from the earth, replaced by open green grass, walking trails, and playgrounds where children could laugh under the open sky.

Instead, we made the Hamptons estate our permanent home.

We renovated the house with wide-open glass walls, warm cedar wood, and expansive gardens that opened directly onto the beach. There were no hidden cameras, no biometric panic vaults, and no armed guards patrolling the halls in tactical gear.

The only security we needed was the high-tech perimeter gate and the peace that comes from absolute freedom.

In September, for the first time in nearly two years, Olivia, Sophie, and Nora returned to school.

I stood beside Grace at the school bus stop at the end of our private drive, watching the yellow bus approach in the golden morning light.

Olivia had her backpack strapped on, holding Sophie’s hand. Nora was jumping up and down, wearing a bright pink dress, holding a drawing she had made for her new kindergarten teacher.

When the bus came to a halt and the doors folded open, the three girls turned back to look at us.

“Bye, Daddy! Bye, Aunt Grace!” Nora cheered, waving with both hands.

“We love you!” Sophie and Olivia called out together, their bright, beautiful voices carrying across the autumn air.

“We love you more, girls!” I called back, my heart swelling with an emotion so immense it brought a tear of pure joy to my eye. “Have a wonderful first day!”

They bounded up the bus steps, laughing together, and took their seats by the window, waving furiously as the bus pulled away down the tree-lined coastal road.

I stood there in the quiet morning, watching the bus disappear around the bend.

Grace stepped beside me, sliding her arm gently around my waist, resting her head against my shoulder.

“Look at them,” Grace whispered softly. “They’re flying, Dominic.”

“They are,” I said, wrapping my arm tightly around her, pulling her close against my side. “Because you gave them their wings.”
