Chapter 12 - The Black-Market Contract and a Mother’s Vengeance

The moment the weight of my baby settled against my chest, the entire world seemed to fall silent.

I pulled back the edge of the blue embroidered swaddle. Beneath the soft fabric, little Lucas was crying with all his might, his tiny pink face scrunched up, his little hands waving in the air.

I gently lifted his tiny left arm.

There, on the inside of his tiny wrist, was the distinct, crescent-shaped birthmark—the exact twin to the mark on my own palm.

“It’s him,” I wept openly, pressing my lips against his warm forehead. “Arthur… it’s Lucas. It’s my boy.”

“Secure the suspects!” Arthur commanded instantly.

Two tactical officers moved forward, grabbing Victoria Henderson and forcing her arms behind her back, snapping heavy steel handcuffs onto her wrists. Another team tackled Julian Henderson to the concrete, securing him alongside his private security guards.

“You’ll regret this!” Julian spat, his face pressed against the wet asphalt. “My legal team will tear this case apart!”

“Save your breath for the federal grand jury, Henderson,” Arthur said coldly, watching as officers led the billionaire couple away toward the waiting police cruisers.

From the edge of the helipad, a medical team rushed forward with a portable warming crib. Dr. Ramirez, the state police medical examiner, approached with a warm, reassuring smile.

“Let’s get him checked out, Mrs. Vance,” she said gently.

I stood beside the crib as Dr. Ramirez performed a rapid vital check. Lucas was fully healthy, perfectly hydrated, and showed zero signs of medical distress—completely contradicting the falsified death certificate Mark and Dr. Harrison had logged in the county records.

“He’s in excellent condition,” Dr. Ramirez confirmed, wrapping him in a fresh, sterile hospital blanket. “He’s ready to go home with his mother.”

Just as we began walking back toward the main lawn, a black transport van pulled onto the driveway.

The rear doors swung open, and two armed officers escorted Mark Vance out in heavy chains. Arthur had ordered Mark brought to the scene to witness the absolute destruction of his conspiracy.

Mark’s face was bruised, his suit jacket torn, and his eyes were hollow with sheer terror.

When he saw me standing under the estate lights, holding Lucas securely in my arms while Detective Miller brought Leo over in his carrier, Mark’s knees gave out. He collapsed onto the wet grass, staring at the family he had tried to destroy.
